First Mate K9 Academy offers more than obedience training. We will work alongside you and your veterinary team to solve behavior issues like aggression, reactivity, severe anxiety, and phobias.

ONE ON ONE INSTRUCTION

Individual classes provide a unique opportunity for both learners to receive one-on-one instruction. You will get real time feedback on your handling skills, training techniques, and communication process. Your pup will learn new skills with the trainer as you watch and learn how to apply your dogs new skills to your life together. These classes take place at First Mate K9 Academy in Guntersville, AL. Each sessions lasts 1 hour. The whole family is welcome to attend. Be prepared to give lots of yummy treats and learn! Take home handouts and homework will be sent home weekly to ensure your training stays on track.

Private Classes

Classes at the Park

For some behavior modification classes like Socialization + Manners, training in a public setting is beneficial. After a few classes at the First Mate K9 Academy facility, you and your trainer may meet at a public park such as Sunset Walking Trail, Guntersville State Park, or the dog park at the Sand Mountain Park recreation center in Albertville. Conducting a private class in public allows you and the trainer to address specific concerns such as reactivity, distractions, and greeting strangers. Like the session at FMK9A, these public session also last 1 hour, weather permitting.
Your trainer comes to you! House calls are ideal for a variety of situations. These appointments generally last 2 hours.  Weather your dog is struggling with separation anxiety, aggression, or you prefer training in the comfort of your own backyard, House Calls are designed to fit your needs. Your trainer will leave you with lots on new knowledge and reading materials to look back for additional help with your training goals.
